"Beauty" is fundamentally an evaluation. Like every evaluation, an appreciation of beauty depends on the particular ideals of a society. Because of this, beauty is interpreted in extremely different ways, depending on the socio-cultural context.
In everyday life, something is usually called "beautiful" if it makes a particularly pleasant impression. Beauty is perceived and experienced as a subjective sensation, in other words, as a feeling. However, feelings are the same for all people, irrespective of when they live or their cultural background. Love, joy and trust, but also fear and sadness are universal feelings that apply and have always applied world-wide and at all times in human history. The universality of feelings is what unites us as people, across the borders of culture and time
If this insight is applied to design, this means that a form can be found which is universally found to be beautiful - on condition that design is reduced to exclude anything decorative and superfluous. A form that reflects our elementary feelings. 
This basic principle was the inspiration for the design of Rolf Benz LINEA. The range of sofas designed by Swiss designer Cuno Frommherz is reserved in its very form, accentuating the simplicity and clarity of its lines. It consciously dispenses with everything that is decorative and superfluous. The result is a corpus that, due to its minimalism and clarity, has a strong character, but also leaves space for the things that surround it.
Rolf Benz LINEA is, consequently, very self-contained and independent on the one hand, but is still able to blend harmoniously and confidently into a multitude of different environments. Rolf Benz LINEA leaves space for other things, in this way creating a basis on which to develop individuality. After all, it is a person's own living space that should reflect exactly the personality of the person who lives in these rooms and gives them soul.
